AVR 2: Rating Scale
Overview
Interactions between children and teachers are critical to the quality of care provided in a program. The Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS®) is an observation tool that assesses the quality of teacher-child interactions in early childhood classrooms and provides a consistent, reliable, and comprehensive measure of teacher/child interactions.
Requirement
Levels 4 and 5:
CLASS® assessment conducted by MSDE-approved assessor for a random sample of at least 50% of the PreK classrooms.
Documentation to upload: CLASS®summary report completed by MSDE-approved assessor
Instructions
There are multiple steps to take to meet the requirements for AVR 2.
- Download the Public Prekindergarten Request for Program Assessment form. This form can also be found in “Resources.”
- Email the completed form to the program’s Program Coordinator.
- MSDE will contact the program to schedule a visit.
- After the scheduled visit, the program will receive a summary report. The documentation required to meet AVR 2 is the CLASS Summary Report.
Next Steps
- Review the CLASS® summary reports to ensure the required number of reports have been collected.
- Log into the Maryland EXCELS System to upload the program’s CLASS summary report(s).
- Submit for review.
