Requirements

Since the Maryland EXCELS system receives licensing information electronically, no further action or documentation is required if your program meets these licensing requirements.

Child Care Center

LIC 1.4: Licensing

Licensed, open and operating for at least six months, and not in provisional and/or conditional status.

Family Child Care

LIC 1.4: Licensing

Registered, open and operating for at least six months, and not in provisional and/or conditional status.

School-Age Only

LIC 1.4: Licensing

Licensed, open and operating for at least six months, and not in provisional and/or conditional status.

Key Terms

Provisional Status:

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) may approve an initial or continuing license on a provisional basis for a period of up to 120 days after determining that the health and safety of the children in care are not in imminent danger.

Conditional Status:

If an operator who holds a continuing license fails to remedy violations as required, the Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) may place the license on conditional status.
