Overview

Community networks are a vital source of support for families with young children. Schools should create supportive networks to enhance school readiness and overall well-being for parents, families, and staff. High-quality programs provide assistance to families in accessing necessary community resources.

Requirement

Level 5:

Information about community resources, including referral resources for children with disabilities and for children with special health care needs, is kept current and made available to families and staff. The school assists the family in accessing community resources.

Build a Statement

Develop a statement about the community resources identified, accessed, and shared by your program. The Reflection Questions below will help you consider what you do in the program to capture it when creating your statement. Upon reflecting, you are ready to build your statement.

  1. What community resources are shared with families and staff?
  2. What referral resources do you share with families and staff regarding children with disabilities and those with special health care needs?
  3. How do you identify the resources that meet the needs of your program?
  4. How do you keep the resources current?
  5. How do you share the resources with families and staff?
  6. How does the school assist families in accessing community resources?

After reflecting on the questions, you have the option to download and save the Community Resources Template and create your statement.
